POV

by Kinanti Prestiasani

“While Salvador Alende’s democratic regima was being over-thrown by Chillean military in 1973, a cameraman was filming the drama on the street. In his footage, we see an ordinary soldier on a truck to turn the glower, to aim his riffle towards us and to fire. The film jerks but continues. A second shot and the scene falls to the side walk. The unfortunate journalist felt himself isolated from the events because he was peering through a lens. Many scientists consider themselves to be part of such a ‘Fourth Estates’, dispassionate observers as the world unfolds, though few suffer deadly physical damage”
